Origins of The OGeeZ
🌱 The BeginninG
The OGeeZ were born from friendship, timing, and the kind of creative spark that refuses to fade.Guitarist/producer StevieG and vocalist/lyricist L.J. Jay first crossed musical paths decades ago, long before San Jo existed as an idea.
StevieG, a Midwestern guitarist who moved to San Jose in the 1970s, stepped away from live performance for many years to build a successful career in technology. But the pull of music never left. In 2008, after purchasing a Fender Stratocaster and immersing himself in digital production through Berklee Online, he began writing again — blending analog warmth with modern sound design.
Around that same time, fate reintroduced him to L.J. Jay, whose golden voice and lyrical sensibility had graced San Francisco’s Doo Wop and R&B scene in the 1960s. A casual exchange — “I play some guitar.” “I sing a little.” — led to a spontaneous studio session. The chemistry was instant. Their first collaboration, “Pride Gets In My Way,” became the seed of The OGeeZ and their debut album, The Seven Deadly Sins.
🎧 Evolution
From that spark grew a catalog of independent releases — each blending old-school soul with new-school clarity.
The duo’s creative home, VeeVeeVee Recording Studios, became a laboratory for tone, texture, and emotion.
While StevieG shaped arrangements through guitars, keys, and modern production, L.J. Jay brought timeless phrasing and storytelling that bridged generations.
🌆 The San Jo Era
Their latest project, San Jo, captures the heartbeat of their city — a love letter to San Jose and its transformation from orchards and neighborhood soul to the innovation capital of Silicon Valley.
Each track traces that journey: the smooth pulse of Silicon Valley, the raw emotion of Guilty Love, the nostalgic groove of Alum Rock, and the uplifting optimism of Sí Se Puede.
The sound is cinematic yet intimate — where R&B, soul, and modern production meet human storytelling.
“We make music that remembers where it came from — and dares to imagine where it’s going.”
💫 Legacy & Vision
The OGeeZ stand as proof that creativity doesn’t expire — it evolves. Their music honors San Jose's roots while speaking to a global audience hungry for authenticity.
For StevieG and L.J. Jay, The OGeeZ isn’t just a band; it’s a shared story about perseverance, friendship, and the rhythm of a city finding its soul again.
